JINX 103 / Cie József Trefeli (CH)
A duet of two brilliant dancers, an encounter of two representatives of the Hungarian diaspora: one of them from Australia, the other having grown up in Russia. Both set out on a journey back to their common roots as they have learnt to know them on opposite sides of the world. The folklore ambient of the choreography is pierced with sense of rhythm of our present days, combining body percussions with contemporary dance and building up a sophisticated performance that preserves the essence of ancient rituals. Sharing, collective energy and breathing, universal vocabulary of the body and the movement – all of that within. Although József Trefeli and Gábor Varga perform a dance of male dynamics, there is no aspect of fighting to it. Instead, they focus on searching for parallels, simultaneity, continuity and walking on together. Many cultures have an expression for a situation when two people coincidentally say the same thing at the same time. English has „jinx” and Hungarian „103”.
József Trefeli studied dance at University of Melbourne. His dance education is multi-faceted, including classical techniques, contemporary and musical dance, singing, tap dance as well as traditional Hungarian folklore dance. For nine years he danced and created at the Geneva company Alias, having performed a number of roles that gained him critical acclaim and reputation with the public. Currently, his scope of activities covers a diversity of genres on top of contemporary dance: cabaret, drama, musical comedy and opera to name a few.
Gábor Varga started his career as a folklore dancer. From 1995 – 2000 he studied at the Talentum International School of Dance and Musical Art in Budapest. After graduation he was accepted to P.A.R.T.S, a prestigious dance school of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in Brussels which opened to him the possibilities to cooperate with big names of European choreography, among them Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, David Zambrano, William Forsythe, Michèle Anne De Mey, Mette Ingvartsen and Thomas Hauert. After that he got to working in Geneva where he has collaborated with Compagnie Gilles Jobin, Guilherme Botelho's Alias and Cie József Trefeli, meanwhile managing and producing diverse artistic projects.

A solo by the French dancer and juggler draws inspiration from the phenomenon of NDE – Near Death Experience. Nevertheless, the choreography has nothing to do with death as such, the theme being quite the contrary – life. In an abstract and poetic form the piece offers intimate and in-depth contemplation on the meaning of life and its universal values. Through diverse means of contemporary dance, hip hop and unique mastership in juggling, Dazin evokes individual stages of life, inciting emotions through the body, the movement and the whirling of juggling balls which serve as both, objects of manipulation and catalysts of movement. The author and performer challenges the perception of time through the technique of slow-motion, repetitions and radical acceleration of movement. He discovers connections and builds up relations between dance and juggling techniques, decomposing the prejudice that juggling is merely a presentation technique, turning it into artistic tool with its own sense.
Clément Dazin started with gymnastics at the age of six. Ten years later he gets to learning circus and juggling, through which he discovers his creative and performing potential. He starts to develop his skills in dance, hip hop, contemporary dance and other techniques, including acrobatics and acting. In 2008 he takes up courses at the circus school in Lyon and later develops his education at Centre National des Arts du Cirque. He has collaborated with Philippe Genty, Aragorne Boulangere, Fatou Traoré, Johanne Saunier, Juliene Clément and Bruno Dizien, all of them imprinting largely on his work and style. In 2012, he was in tour with This is the end, show of the 23rd promotion of the CNAC. In November 2013 he created Bruit de couloir, a solo of dance and juggling.
