CANCELLED! MONEY TRANSFORMANCE / Secondhand Women Profile

Punk Operetta
performance length: 90 min

Due to the global transport difficulties, we are forced to cancel The Secondhand Women Profile including this performance! The new date for the Profile has been set on 24-27 November. We apologize and thank you for understanding.

The theatre work of the group Secondhand Women has always been a lively mix of contemporary thinking, self-reflection, and sensitive artistic approach. The work of these women belongs to the creative backbone of Alfred ve dvoře.

The legendary Mezzo performance ranks amongst the most interesting project-based theatre performances to be staged in the last ten years. This profile shows the spark that burns between the bold personalities of Helene Kvint, Petra Lustigová, Steffanie Thors, Halka Třešňáková, and Daniela Voráčková.

The performance in English and Czech language

International theatre group SECONDHAND WOMEN are in their newest project MONEY TRANSFORMANCE working with actual theme - MONEY. How does the exchange market work – sex for the comfort, money for loosing freedom in work. We are jumping from one style to the other, expensive operetta changes to authentic theatre of private stories. …The value of Secondhand Women is only as high as other people think it is. So if people think you have a problem you have a problem. It is all about psychology…

The actresses fill the stage with not only their humour, but also with serious questions, and offer alternatives of opposing replies. Their variability in iteself enables open stage discussions and sometimes a desperate fight to push through their own approach to the topic of money. SECONDHAND WOMEN criticise the gathering of expensive products, on the other hand they crave the designer handbags and luxury they know from the lives of rich women. The music passages help them to stage cabaret choreography, dance mini jingles and their own songs. From the door in a western saloon through intimate stories to the criminal underworld in Latin America. From the samba to the cancan, from the dollar to the crown, and from their own pocket to the World Trade Centre…

... they theatricise themselves and also actually the problems of the whole theatre (dance) community faces. It isn’t dry, there is a strong sense of (self-)irony bordering sometimes on black humour. They are strong in being able to mercilessly serve their own destinies to the audience, their CV’s, and the history of their group as a stage case study which concisely indicates a larger problem. They are in fact quite concerned, but instead of sermonising they entertain in a hundred different ways, aiming – with hyperbole – to pump money from the public and launder it if dirty.
