PERFORMING THRESHOLDS: INVISIBILITY, VIRTUALITY & RITUAL / ATOM-r

workshop
performance length: 240 min
This interdisciplinary workshop led by the ATOM-r collective will engage movement, text, and technology through the contemporary paradigm of mixed reality in which physical and virtual spaces are intertwined. Participants will construct a ritual performance working with a gestural and movement vocabulary that activates the sensors of their smartphones to generate texts, images and audio. The group ritual is connected to the ATOM-r’s performance of Kjell Theøry on November 7th.

WHEN: November 8th, 10AM-2PM
WHERE: Venuše ve Švehlovce
ADMISSION: 600 CZK (full price) / 300 CZK (students, seniors)
(admission includes the entry to the Kjell Theøry performance on November 7th)
WORKSHOP LANGUAGE: English

The workshop will engage the activation of thresholds between seen and unseen, real and fake, natural, supernatural and unnatural. We will combine movement/dance, language/poetry, and new media/coding to explore the “queering” of historical rituals and ceremonies. Artists from a range of backgrounds relating to performance, writing, and technology are encouraged to participate.

Anatomical Theatres of Mixed Reality (ATOM-R) is a collective exploring 21st century embodiment through performance, language and emerging technologies. The work mixes the live body with ubiquitous computing through DIY interactive sets and an implementation of Augmented Reality in which virtual content is overlaid onto bodies and spaces through the use of a smartphone app. The group was founded in 2012 by Judd Morrissey and Mark Jeffery, formerly of Goat Island Performance group. Additional performing members include Justin Deschamps and Christopher Knowlton.
