EL CONQUISTADOR

4+4+4 DNY V POHYBU
The portrait of a Columbian peasant who decides to leave his land and find work as a receptionist in a near-by unnamed Latin American city mirrors the history of the conquest of the New World and brings the consequences of this turbulent past to the present day.
Phillips succeeds in combining brilliant acting, puppetry and film projections and captures the rhythm, class differences and drama of contemporary Latin American society.
The production originated in Casa Des Artes in Bogota in cooperation with Columbian television personality Viktor Mallarino and other exceptional performers who through a multimedia videophone guide Phillips’ acting skills to create this original solo performance.
This year, El Conquistador ran successfully for several weeks off-Broadway in New York.
