SWISS SPRING

The cultural programme will include concerts, pantomime, literary events and an opera performance. The main event will be a series of concerts by the Brno Philharmonic, led by the Swiss conductor Kaspar Zehnder, which will take place in Prague and Brno. The official opening concert of “Svycarske jaro-Swiss Spring” will take place on March 5 in the Rudolfinum in Prague. Additional concerts will feature, amongst others, the young Swiss singer Sophie Hunger and the jazz trumpeter Erik Truffaz, the Guarneri Trio Prague and a number of Swiss jazz groups and musicians. The Nimrod Opera Zurich will perform the opera Kassandra, by the contemporary Swiss composer Michael Jarrell, on the New Stage of the National Theatre. Swiss literature will be discussed with authors from the four linguistic regions of Switzerland in a seminar that will take place at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Charles University. The Alfred ve dvoře Theatre will entertain the Prague public with pantomime performances of the duo “Compagnia Due ” from the famous Dimitri School.

Several forums, conferences and exhibitions are planned for discussion of various economic, scientific and political issues. The Swiss-Czech Chamber of Commerce will organise a «Swiss Management Forum» on the topic of «The dual educational system of Switzerland». In collaboration with Swiss and local partners, the Swiss Embassy is also planning exhibitions and conferences about «Modern Direct Democracy», the new 57 km long Gotthard Base Tunnel, the so-called NEAT project, and contemporary Swiss architecture.

The programme will also feature athletic and culinary events. «Nordic Walking» workshops are planned in various cities on several Saturdays, targeting a wider public. A month of Swiss cuisine and Swiss specialties taking place in various restaurants and farmer’s markets will introduce residents of Prague to the pleasures of typical Swiss dishes and products. Various presentations and exhibitions in Prague and the regions will bring Switzerland as a tourist destination closer to the Czech people.

More than 100 partnerships exist between Swiss and Czech municipalities, cities and regions. The Canton of Sankt Gallen together with its partner region Liberec and the city of Lucerne with its sister city Olomouc will participate with their own programmes during the «Swiss Spring».
