PROFILE: AUTO*MAT
05.03. 2012

Auto*Mat, formerly a free association of artists, experts and city planners was founded in 2003. Over the years, it has become a professional organization that uses and develops smart approaches to improve the quality of urban transport and public spaces in Prague.

Auto*Mat is a non-profit civic association that fosters the modern, healthy and sustainable development of the city of Prague. We’re a group of roughly 20 young people and a wide range of occasional supporters who have strong personal attachment to our city and want to see its potential used for the renewal of its public spaces thus increasing the quality of urban life.

"We believe that the key to this is the organization of Prague transport and the urban mobility of its inhabitants. Our mission is to support and develop cycling along with pedestrian and public transport in the capital, which are still given a back seat. We’d like to see a reduction in excessive subsidies for automobile infrastructure in our city. That kind of investment leads to the unreasonable and ineffective use of our city, the devastation of its public spaces and the depletion of public budgets. We defend the reasonable use of cars and calming of urban transport. Instead of adapting Prague for car transport, we want Prague to become a modern livable city."

"To realize our mission, we’re active in four different areas:"

Positive promotion campaigns and mapping
Critical expert work
Organization of public events
Know-how exchange on nationwide and international levels
